Lyman direction, Serebryansky forest: National Guard informs on battles, destruction of enemy tanks

War in Ukraine

"During one of the battles, the fighters of units of the 4th Brigade of the Operational Assignment stopped a daring attempt by the enemy to break through our positions. Having failed during the assault by infantry units, the enemy sent three newest T-90M Proryv tanks for help. However, the Lyman forests stood in their way, the breakthrough was not successful and the tank crews replenished to the lists of ‘good Russians’," Colonel Mykola Urshalovych, Deputy Director of the Planning Department for the Use of the Main Directorate of the National Guard of Ukraine, told a briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to him, these tanks drove over landmines and the National Guard members burned them to the ground with anti-tank weapons.

Urshalovych noted that in the Serebryansky forest area this week, during heavy battles, the Guard members ensured the fulfillment of all combat missions determined by the command.

He added that at 04:00 on July 27 a Russian tank moved to a firing position and began a direct attack on the positions of one of the units of the 5th Slobozhansky Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine.

"Senior Lieutenant Viktor Khomenko, having ordered his subordinates to open fire on the tank, took NLAW anti-tank grenade launcher and quickly moved towards the enemy's target. Since the conditions in the Serebryansky forest do not allow firing from a long distance, the officer, having reached the front edge, climbed out of the trench, crawled to a distance of 150 meters to the tank and destroyed it with a well-aimed shot," Urshalovych said.

This heroic act of the commander, he added, made it possible to hold the positions and save the lives of his subordinates.

"And this is not an isolated case. In fact, every day our soldiers and officers perform combat missions honestly and courageously, risking their lives – they hold the occupied lines and liberate our land from the enemy," Urshalovych said.

In Sivershchyna direction, he informed, the Ukrainian soldiers, under constant artillery fire and strikes by army aircraft, are steadily holding the defense and repelling the Russian offensive actions.

As reported, the National Guard members shot down an Orlan-10 UAV in Lyman direction.
