Erdogan Declares the End of Syria's Baath Regime as a Victory for Türkiye and the Region

Türkiye

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hailed the fall of Syria's Baath regime as a victory not only for the Syrian people but also for Türkiye, emphasizing regional unity and the end of terrorism in the area, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

"The end of the Baath regime's tyranny is a triumph for our Syrian brothers and for us, their neighbors," Erdogan said on Saturday. He called for solidarity among Turks, Arabs, Kurds, and Turkmens, describing them as "children of the same land, history, and future."

Erdogan also underscored the demise of terrorism as a tool for exploitation in the region, stating, "The era of using terrorist organizations to exploit the region is over. Guns aimed at Türkiye will be buried, or those who point them will be."

He expressed hope for a future defined by cooperation rather than conflict, saying, "We want our shared geography to be marked by economic, commercial, and human collaboration. Let the sun of brotherhood warm these lands instead of the cold face of terrorism."

Erdogan’s comments come after Syrian leader Bashar Assad fled to Russia on Dec. 8, following the fall of Damascus to anti-regime groups, effectively ending the Baath Party’s rule since 1963.
