Turkish Foreign Minister Visits Northern Cyprus for High-Level Talks

Türkiye

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with his Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) counterpart, Tahsin Ertugruloglu, during a visit to Lefkosa, the capital of Northern Cyprus, on Wednesday, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

The meeting was also attended by Türkiye's Ambassador to Lefkosa, Yasin Ekrem Serim, and TRNC's Ambassador to Ankara, Ismet Korukoglu.

As part of the two-day working visit, Fidan is set to hold discussions with TRNC President Ersin Tatar, Parliament Speaker Ziya Ozturkler, and Prime Minister Unal Ustel. A joint press conference with President Tatar is also planned.

The Cyprus Dispute

The visit comes amid ongoing tensions surrounding the decades-long Cyprus issue, a conflict between Greek and Turkish Cypriots. Despite numerous diplomatic efforts by the UN and failed peace talks, including a 2017 initiative in Switzerland involving guarantor states Türkiye, Greece, and the UK, a comprehensive resolution remains elusive.
