TAV Macedonia and Wizz Air told a press conference on Monday that as of May 3, the Skopje International Airport connects with Barcelona and Lyon. The flights will be operated by low-cost carrier Wizz Air with subsidies from the Government, CE Report quotes MIA.

Wizz Air will operate on the Barcelona-Skopje route twice a week, every Tuesday and Saturday, while the Skopje-Lyon route will be operated every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The first flight from Skopje to Barcelona will take off on Saturday at 6:50 p.m., and two passengers will get free airline tickets via social media giveaway.

"After a three-year break, we are reconnecting Skopje and Barcelona by air. The return of this route is the result of a joint vision, cooperation and strong commitment by our partners, the Government and Wizz Air," said TAV Macedonia General Manager Nejat Kurt.

He believes this route will be more successful than it was back three years ago and many passengers will enjoy the destination.

Skopje International Airport is connecting for the first time with Lyon. Kurt pointed out that this is a special city that has a lot to offer, it is a UNESCO city, the city of cinema and definitely a city to be visited by gastronomy lovers.

Kurt said targeted destinations include the Spanish and Italian coasts, reinstatement of the route to Larnaca in Cyprus, as well as launch of direct flights to Prague and Madrid.

With financial support from the Government, the Skopje-Dubai flight was to be launched at the end of March, with Flydubai, but it has been postponed until the fall. The lifting of the UAE visa requirements announced by the Government, according to the TAV management, will bring many passengers to the route.
