Between January 16-19, Oradea has been showcased as a top tourist destination at two major international tourism fairs: the Matka Nordic Travel Fair in Helsinki and the Ferien-Messe Wien in Vienna, according to a press release from Visit Oradea, CE Report quotes Agerpres

The events provide an excellent opportunity to attract tourists from Finland and Austria, markets with growing interest in Central and Eastern European destinations. Visit Oradea is leveraging these platforms to promote the city’s Art Nouveau architecture, thermal baths, gastronomy, cultural events, and tailored tourism packages.

The Matka Nordic Travel Fair, Scandinavia’s largest tourism event, hosts over 800 exhibitors and 50,000 visitors annually. During the fair, Oradea’s delegation also welcomed a visit from the Romanian Embassy to Finland, highlighting the city's strategic efforts to attract Nordic tourists through air connections facilitated by LOT Polish Airlines via Warsaw.

Meanwhile, the Ferien-Messe Wien in Austria serves as a key event for promoting Oradea’s offerings to Austrian travelers, known for their interest in spa tourism and historical cities. This year, Oradea participated alongside Sibiu and Timisoara in a shared stand, maximizing visibility and resources.

Director General Alexandru Chira emphasized the importance of these efforts in strengthening Oradea’s international presence, particularly in light of Romania’s upcoming entry into the Schengen Area for road traffic on January 1, 2025.
