Amazon Launches First Kuiper Satellites to Rival Starlink

Tech & Science

Amazon has launched its first batch of internet satellites for Project Kuiper, marking the beginning of its attempt to rival Elon Musk’s Starlink, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The mission, called Kuiper Atlas 1, lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida at 7:00 p.m. local time (11:00 p.m. in Italy) aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket, carrying 27 satellites into orbit.

Several years behind its competitor, the American online retail giant owned by Jeff Bezos has invested more than $10 billion in the project. Amazon plans to use this satellite network to provide ultra-high-speed internet access across every corner of the globe, including remote areas and regions affected by war or natural disasters.

The service launch is scheduled for 2025.

The cost is still unknown but is expected to be "affordable," according to Amazon, which aims to maintain the strategy that led to its success: low prices.
