Croatia offers 500 scholarships to expats, descendants
The Ministry of Demography and Immigration has advertised a public call for 500 scholarships for Croatian language courses for Croats living abroad, to be held at six universities across Croatia in the next academic year.
The goal of the programme is to encourage people of Croatian descent to come to Croatia and pursue their professional careers and build families in the country, according to the ministry, CE Report quotes HINA.
The course will be held across the country at the Faculties of Humanities in Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, Osijek, and Pula, as well as at the University of Zadar in the 2025-26 academic year.
Scholarship recipients are expected to regularly attend classes, where they will not only learn the language but also become familiar with Croatian culture and heritage.
Applications must be submitted exclusively in electronic form via the e-application form available on the ministry's website.
Eligible to apply are members of the Croatian Diaspora, their descendants and spouses.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old, have completed at least secondary school, and have residence outside of Croatia or in Croatia for no longer than three years.
An estimated three million Croatian expats and their descendants live worldwide, with the largest number of political emigrants settling in South and North America after World War II, according to the State Office for Croats Abroad.
