The Argentine-Croatian Chamber of Commerce (CACIC) has launched a news portal about Croatia in Spanish, called CroLatam, aimed at the Croatian diaspora in Latin America.

“There is no specialised media outlet in Latin America that provides reliable news about Croatia, its culture and current events in Spanish,” CACIC president Edi Šeparović has said in São Paulo, CE Report quotes HINA.

He presented the portal at the 8th Meeting of the Croatian Diaspora of South America, held in the Brazilian city.

Around one million Croats and their descendants live in South America.

“The Croatian diaspora in South America is strong, but disconnected from the homeland,” said Šeparović. “There is a language barrier. Existing media content is scattered and mostly in English and Croatian.”

CroLatam, which is still in its pilot phase, will publish news and information on the economy, sports, culture and society.

Šeparović noted that Croats in Latin America will be informed while also connecting with Croatia and with each other.

He believes they will discover CroLatam and start reading about the country of their ancestors, sharing news with their families and beginning conversations about their Croatian roots. “Not only will they read about Croatia, but they will also feel like a part of it.”

He considers CroLatam an “excellent opportunity” for Croatian companies looking to expand their business in South America, as readers will be interested in Croatian products. He assessed that it is a market with high potential and purchasing power.

The portal will offer advertising space for companies, including banners, sponsored content and business networking opportunities.

CACIC is a non-profit organisation founded in Buenos Aires in 1991, as Croatia's first binational chamber in the world. It works to promote cooperation, support and facilitate trade relations between Argentina and Croatia, aiming to strengthen ties between both business communities.
