Rare Dinosaur with Large Claws Discovered in Mongolia

Tech & Science

Paleontologists have identified a new dinosaur species with large claws, named Duonychus tsogtbaatari, discovered in Mongolia's Gobi Desert, the Calgary Herald reported. The fossil, found during a pipeline construction, includes a fully preserved 30-centimeter claw, offering fresh insights into the species' anatomy, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Duonychus, belonging to the therizinosaur family, is unique for having only two fingers on each hand, unlike other members of the group, which typically have three. These dinosaurs, often called the "sloths of the Cretaceous," were known for their unusual appearance, with round bodies, long necks, and large hands.

While only one specimen has been found, researchers believe Duonychus may have lived across Asia and North America.
