EU nations unite to strengthen Europe's chip industry
Strengthening the European chip industry and promoting a new common approach for the competitiveness of the sector - that is the dual objective with which a strategic alliance for semiconductors was launched in Brussels.
The initiative, promoted by the Netherlands, has been joined by Italy, France, Germany, Poland, Spain, Austria, Belgium, and Finland, CE Report quotes ANSA.
"To ensure technological sovereignty, resilience and strategic autonomy, the EU must strongly strengthen cooperation - between governments, industry, research institutes - and create and coordinate together a common strategy to increase production capacity, invest in cutting-edge research and develop a qualified workforce" said the joint statement adopted by the competent ministers of the nine member states.
The text represents the basis for defining the future Chips Act 2.0, on which the European Commission has committed to work with the aim of adopting it by 2026.
"Italy is taking on a leadership role in the production of advanced digital technologies.
Through collaboration with other Member States, we want to build a solid and competitive European ecosystem along the entire semiconductor supply chain, reducing external dependencies and strengthening our strategic autonomy" said Business and Made in Italy Minister Adolfo Urso, speaking at the round table that gave life to the coalition on semiconductors, held on the sidelines of the Competitiveness Council.
In the coming months, it is explained in the note adopted by the 9 EU States, the coalition for semiconductors will work "in collaboration with the European Commission for a Declaration that will be open to the support of all Member States, underlining our commitment to strengthening Europe's position in the global semiconductor industry".
