TikTok Temporarily Unavailable in the U.S. Following Ban

Tech & Science

TikTok has notified U.S. users that the app is currently unavailable due to a recently enacted ban. Upon opening the app, users are greeted with a message stating:
"Sorry, TikTok isn't available right now. A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can't use TikTok for now." CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

The app is no longer accessible on the App Store or Google Play Store, though users can still log in to download their data. TikTok announced earlier that its services would be "temporarily unavailable" due to the ban.

The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the legislation, which requires TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to divest its ownership to address national security concerns. The White House emphasized the app could remain in the U.S. only under American ownership.

President-elect Donald Trump, who has expressed support for TikTok, is set to begin his second term on Monday and has indicated a willingness to work on a solution to reinstate the platform. TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew is expected to attend Trump’s inauguration.

The bipartisan law, signed in April 2024, provided ByteDance with 270 days to divest or face a ban. TikTok has assured users it is working to restore its services in the U.S. as soon as possible.
