EU introduces common USB-C charger
New rules on common USB-C chargers come into force in the EU from December 28, saving households an estimated EUR 250 million a year. This is noted in a communication from the European Parliament's Committee on Internal Market, CE Report quotes BTA.
The change affects new mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, video game consoles, portable speakers, e-readers, keyboards, mice, portable navigation systems. From April 28, 2026, this requirement will apply to portable computers.
Under the new rules, consumers will have the right to refuse a charger when purchasing new electronics. Manufacturers will be required to change packaging to clearly show charging capabilities of new devices.
