Albania will host the grand start of the "Giro d’Italia" (Giro d’Italia Grande Partenza) for the first time, one of the most famous cycling tours in the world.

The cycling race will start in Durrës on May 9, then continue in Tirana (May 10) and Vlora (May 11), CE Report quotes ATA.

Prime Minister Edi Rama emphasized the importance of this event, with 180 professional cyclists participating.

“For the first time in history… Giro d’Italia comes to Albania. One of the biggest events in world cycling will take place on May 9, 10, and 11 in Durrës, Tirana, and Vlora,” said Rama.

The Prime Minister announced that 180 professional cyclists, champions from all over the world, will race on our roads, placing Albania on the map of global sports and emotions.

The "Giro d’Italia" was founded in 1909 alongside "Gazzetta dello Sport" and is one of the most important global cycling races, broadcasted by major international media.

In the 114-year history of the race, the "Giro d’Italia Grande Partenza" has been held outside of Italy only 14 times.
