Slovenian ski jumping champion sets new women's world record
Slovenian ski jumping champion Nika Prevc is pushing the boundaries further, setting a new women's world record at 236 metres twice during a practice session for a Ski Jumping World Cup meet in Vikersund, Norway.
The Slovenian, who will turn 20 in a day, beat the previous record set on the same ski flying hill by Norway's Silja Opseth by as much as five metres and a half, CE Report quotes The Slovenia Times.
"That's the best thing that ever happened to me, I really am happy," the usually reserved Prvec told TV Slovenija after improving her own personal best by 45.5 metres.
The new record caps what has been an amazing run for Prevc. She has already secured her second consecutive Crystal Globe for the overall victory in the World Cup after taking two world titles at the recent Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim.
Prevc's record improves by ten metres the previous Slovenian women's record, set by Ema Klinec in March 2023. Klinec was also the first woman ski jumper to pass the 200-metre mark.
Record hunting is part of the family tradition for Prevc, whose brother Peter Prevc was the first male jumper to cross 250 metres in Vikersund in 2015.
