Slovenian cycling superstar wins Stage 3 of UAE Tour
Slovenian cycling superstar Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates XRG) is the winner of the third, 181-kilometre stage of the UAE Tour around the United Arab Emirates. Win in the stage from Ras Al Khaimah to Mount Jebel Jais propelled Pogačar to the top of the general classification four stages to go, CE Report quotes STA.
The first stage win for the 26-year-old Slovenian at this year's UAE Tour came after a fierce sprint in the last metres, in which he overtook Oscar Onley of the UK (Picnic PostNL) and Austrian Felix Gallo (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale).
Pogačar, who is chasing his third overall victory in the race around the United Arab Emirates after winning it in 2021 and 2022, now also sits on top of the general classification four stages to go.
He is 18 seconds ahead of Joshua Tarling of the UK (Ineos Grenadiers) and 23 seconds ahead of Pablo Castrillo of Spain (Movistar).
"It's really good to win in the rainbow jersey. Part of me hoped that Tarling would hold on to the bunch and he would keep the jersey, but I will be more than happy to have the leader's jersey tomorrow," Pogačar said after the race.
"It's not finished yet. We have three flat stages, and you never know what happens here. You can lose it really quickly, so nothing is won yet," Pogačar said.
