Moldova Increases Sports Federations Budget by 37.5%

The budget for Moldova's sports federations will increase by 30 million lei in 2025, reaching a total of 87 million lei—a 37.5% rise. Funding will be allocated based on performance in international competitions, participation in the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, and global rankings, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

The Ministry of Education and Research announced that the largest allocations will go to Wrestling, Canoe-Kayak, Weightlifting, Judo for Disabled Persons, and Judo Federations.

  • The Wrestling Federation receives 10.38 million lei after securing a silver medal at the Paris Olympics and winning 60 international medals in 2024.

  • The Canoe-Kayak Federation is allocated 8.36 million lei, following a bronze Olympic medal and eight international medals.

  • The Judo Federation for Persons with Disabilities gets 7.84 million lei after winning silver and bronze Paralympic medals and four international distinctions.

  • The Judo Federation receives 7.61 million lei, with its athletes winning two Olympic bronze medals and three more in European and World Championships.

Federations with Olympic or Paralympic participants receive an additional 200,000 lei each, plus 100,000 lei per participating athlete.

Moldova set a national record in 2024, winning 731 international medals, up from 545 in 2023. Currently, around 70 sports federations operate in the country.
