Romanian tennis star Simona Halep is set to face Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti in the first round of the Transylvania Open (WTA 250), starting Monday at BTarena in Cluj-Napoca. This marks Halep’s return to competition after a hiatus since October. The match is scheduled for Tuesday and will be the first encounter between the two players, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Other Romanian players in the main draw include Jaqueline Cristian and Sorana Cîrstea, who will play qualifiers, while Irina Begu takes on Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto. Gabriela Ruse will meet Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, and Ana Bogdan faces British player Jodie Burrage.

Top-seeded Anastasia Potapova of Russia will begin her campaign against Austria’s Julia Grabher. Following the withdrawal of Denmark’s Clara Tauson, Serbia’s Olga Danilovic moves up as the second seed and will face American Alycia Parks.

The fifth edition of Romania’s premier tennis tournament will feature 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams, competing for 250 WTA points and a prize pool of $275,094. Matches will be played indoors on hard courts at BTarena.
