Borussia Dortmund Parts Ways with Head Coach Nuri Sahin After 7 Months
Borussia Dortmund announced the departure of head coach Nuri Sahin on Wednesday, just seven months into his tenure, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency
"Unfortunately, we have not succeeded in fulfilling Borussia Dortmund's sporting ambitions this season as it currently stands. I wish this special club all the best," Sahin said in a statement.
The decision comes after Dortmund's fourth consecutive loss in all competitions, a 2-1 defeat to Bologna in the UEFA Champions League. In the Bundesliga, the team has dropped to 10th place with 25 points from 18 matches, following three straight losses.
Dortmund also exited the German Cup in the second round after losing to Wolfsburg and sits in 13th place in their UEFA Champions League group with just 12 points from seven matches.
Sahin, a former Dortmund midfielder who played 274 matches and won the Bundesliga in 2011 and the DFB Cup in 2017, took over as head coach last year on a three-year contract.
The 36-year-old previously managed Turkish Super Lig club Antalyaspor from 2021 to 2023 and returned to Dortmund as an assistant coach in January 2024. As a player, he also won the 2012 La Liga title with Real Madrid.
Sahin succeeded Edin Terzic as Dortmund's head coach but could not deliver the results needed to meet the club's ambitions.
