Turkish Tennis Player Zeynep Sonmez to Make Australian Open Main Draw Debut

Turkish tennis star Zeynep Sonmez is set to make her debut in the Australian Open main draw this month. The 22-year-old, currently ranked 93rd in the world, will be the sole Turkish representative in the main matches of the year’s first Grand Slam, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Meanwhile, Türkiye will also have a strong presence in the Australian Open Junior and Para Tennis tournaments. Four young Turkish athletes will compete in the junior category, with Deniz Dilek entering the main draw, while Ada Kumru, Haydar Cem Gokpınar, and Kerem Yılmaz will vie for spots through the qualifiers starting January 15.

In para tennis, Ahmet Kaplan and Ali Ataman will take to the courts, with the first-round matches beginning on January 21.

This marks a promising start to the year for Turkish tennis on the global stage.
