Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring in the 37th minute, converting a close-range chance set up by Vinícius Júnior at Lusail Stadium. Rodrygo doubled the lead with a spectacular 20-yard strike in the 53rd minute, and Vinícius Júnior sealed the victory with a late penalty.

The win capped a memorable week for Vinícius, who was named the 2024 Best FIFA Men's Player in Doha just a day earlier.

The Intercontinental Cup, first launched in 2000, returned in 2024 with a revamped format featuring six continental champions. Starting in 2025, the tournament will evolve into a 32-team event held every four years.
