The 33-year-old former world No. 1 is currently ranked 877th in the WTA rankings, having competed in just five matches this year following her return from a doping suspension, which was reduced to nine months.

Halep, who reached the Australian Open final in 2018, expressed excitement about her return: "The thought of returning to Australia after three years is exciting, and I'm very grateful to the tournament for this opportunity. The Australian Open has provided me with some of the best moments in my career, so I can't wait to be back in Melbourne and playing in front of the Aussie fans," she said.

Other Romanian players in the qualifiers include Ana Bogdan (WTA 114), Anca Todoni (WTA 118), Gabriela Ruse (WTA 121), and Miriam Bulgaru (WTA 211). Meanwhile, Sorana Cirstea (WTA 69), Irina Begu (WTA 79), and Jaqueline Cristian (WTA 85) have secured direct entry into the main draw.
