Slovenia delays EU payment request amid pension reform setback

Finance Minister Klemen Boštjančič has announced that, due to the delay in the adoption of the pension reform, Slovenia plans to submit its next, fourth request for payment from the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) only in mid-2025, CE Report quotes STA.

The pension reform, which aims to address the country’s aging population and ensure long-term sustainability of the pension system, has faced multiple hurdles in the legislative process. The delay is seen as a setback for Slovenia's economic recovery efforts, as the RRF funds are essential for financing vital projects aimed at modernizing the economy and ensuring social stability.

Minister Boštjančič reassured that despite the delay, Slovenia remains committed to fulfilling its obligations under the RRF and is working closely with EU authorities to address the challenges. He emphasized that the country is prioritizing reforms that will support sustainable growth, green transition, and digital transformation, even if the payment request is delayed.
