Serbia's largest-ever rally: students lead historic protest against Vučić

Amidst the tensions, a protest began in Belgrade, Serbia, which is considered to be the largest ever in this country. Thousands of students from various cities and villages in Serbia, as well as other protesters, are reported to be stationed in front of the Serbian Parliament, but also at Slavia, where there will be a stage, choir and speakers.

Despite students in Serbia organizing protests demanding accountability for the deaths of 15 people in Novi Sad, Albanian politicians from the Presevo Valley say President Aleksandar Vuçiq, will not resign, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

According to them, protest in Belgrade is unpredictable and there may be clashes and intervention by police forces.

Former Albanian MP in the Serbian Parliament, Fatmir Hasani, in a statement for KosovaPress says the number of protesters could reach nearly a million, while not ruling out possible tensions. He emphasizes that this protest is an indicator for Vuçiq that this path is insurmountable for him.

The leader of the Democratic Party of Albania (DPSH), Ragmi Mustafa, says that state televisions and those that support Vuçiq are not broadcasting any footage from the protest. According to him, RTS and some others are showing cartoons and documentaries or pieces by students who support Vuçiq.

Former chairman of the Albanian National Council, Ragmi Mustafi, says there was an extraordinary mobilization for protest in Belgrade, while adding that the current government there has warned that there may be violence.

Although the protest has been announced to be peaceful, Mustafi says there could be staging of situations by controlled groups of Vuçiqit, to legitimize the use of violence. According to Ragmi Mustafi, even after this protest Vuçiq will not resign, adding that he has panicked lately.

Students in Serbia have been organizing protests and blockades for four months in several major cities, demanding responsibility for the deaths of 15 people in Novi Sad, after a concrete shelter collapsed at the railway station on November 1, 2024.

They demand the publication of all documents related to the reconstruction of the railway station to determine who is responsible for this accident, the prosecution of those who attacked the protesters, and the suspension of procedures against those arrested during previous protests.
