Vučević's resign shakes Serbia’s political landscape
The resignation of Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević following massive protests is being considered as the first step in the downfall of President Aleksandar Vučić's regime. The anti-government protests, which have been ongoing for two months, are being described as "tectonic" developments that could topple President Vučić. However, political analysts in Kosovo believe that through the resignation of Prime Minister Vučević, Vučić intends to shift the responsibility away from himself and extend his rule, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
For more than two months in Serbia, thousands of students and other citizens have been demanding criminal and political accountability for the tragedy in the city of Novi Sad, where on November 1 of last year, 15 people lost their lives due to the collapse of a shelter at the railway station.
Political scientist and regional developments expert Milazim Koci told KosovaPress that the protests in Serbia cannot easily be defeated by Vučić, despite the resignation of Prime Minister Vučević. According to him, this is the first time in ten years that the power of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić is being seriously shaken.
On the other hand, analyst Albinot Maloku told KosovaPress that Vučić’s regime has started to fall, but his political power is still strong in Serbia.
He added that Vučević's resignation is an attempt by Vučić to remove responsibility from himself for the tragedy in Novi Sad and to extend his rule. Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević resigned on Tuesday following massive protests by students and citizens over the tragedy in the city of Novi Sad, where on November 1 of last year, 15 people lost their lives due to the collapse of a shelter at the railway station.
