Protests in Serbia against media blackout Intensify

Serbia

A large number of citizens gathered tonight in front of the Serbian State Television (RTS) building in support of student protests following the dismantling of a tent in Novi Sad and as a sign of dissatisfaction with RTS's biased reporting, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

On this occasion, they paid tribute to the 15 victims in Novi Sad and then presented RTS director Dragan Bujošević with a large sandwich adorned with 71 candles.

Earlier in the day, police removed the opposition from the Novi Sad municipal building, and several other incidents occurred during today's blockades—students from the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad were attacked with a knife by an elderly man.

The action "Stop Serbia, Stand with Students," organized by ProGlas, was also held. This initiative was broader in scope than previous daily "Stop Serbia" actions, featuring tributes and 15 minutes of silence at 11:52 a.m., where citizens and students participated.

It is worth recalling that, on the eve of yesterday's blockade in Belgrade, a car struck a law student, prompting her peers to stage a protest in front of the faculty and march to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

A professor from the Faculty of Law and a member of ProGlas, Miodrag Jovanović, commented on the protests, stating, "What I saw was an endless line of people. Citizens understand that the heart of the problem lies at this address. The Serbian public broadcaster should be here for the public, yet they have ignored the students for 60 days. But interpretations are emerging, and awareness is slowly maturing. There are signs of what could be called a 'general strike'—they are always right and hit the mark."

"We are here because of the media blackout. We have a clear message—the public has the right to be informed about what is happening in Serbia," said a student from the Faculty of Philosophy.

Students read their demands, one of which is the identification and sanctioning of all those who attacked the students.
