Student protests shake Serbia
Student protests erupted across Serbia following the tragic death of 15 people on November 1, 2024, caused by the collapse of a railway shelter in Novi Sad. The incident triggered widespread dissatisfaction and a collective fight against corruption, violence, and for a more just society, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
The protests were initiated by students from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (FDU), whose actions inspired similar demonstrations at over 85 faculties across the country.
The students released a video on X, addressing government officials and media figures attacking them. The video, titled “You Are Not Louder Than Silence,” resonated deeply with citizens, highlighting Serbia's current struggles. The message directly confronts President Aleksandar Vučić and his political and media allies, accusing them of relentless efforts to discredit the student rebellion.
The video begins with statements from government figures, including claims like “The state won’t fall, even for 1,555 victims,” and that children are “property of the state,” alongside accusations that the students are acting for “political motives” or were “trained in Croatia.”
These words are followed by a striking image of a completely silent Slavija Square, filled with 100,000 people.
