Pope Francis Mourned as Peacemaker

In a Facebook post, Ciolacu wrote, “Sad day for Christianity at the beginning of Holy Week. Pope Francis remains the tireless defender of peace, of suffering, and of spiritual communion for people all over the world, regardless of confession. I was privileged to meet him last year at the Vatican and to thank him for his support to the Romanian community in Italy. May God rest him in peace and light!”
The Vatican confirmed Pope Francis died Monday morning at the age of 88. The first Latin American pope, Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected in 2013 and had recently battled double pneumonia.
