Lasconi Challenges USR Over Campaign Ban
Elena Lasconi, chairwoman of USR and a candidate in Romania’s May presidential elections, says she will take legal action after her party cut her campaign funds and withdrew support. She accuses USR leadership of undemocratic practices and claims the move violates her legal right to campaign, referencing Article 385 of the Criminal Code, CE Report quotes Agerpres
Despite the internal party conflict, Lasconi vows to continue her campaign and says she has widespread grassroots support. She presents herself as the only truly independent and anti-system candidate.
If elected president, Lasconi promises to appoint Ilie Bolojan—not current PM Marcel Ciolacu—as prime minister. She emphasizes transparency, national security, better healthcare, and education reform. She also stresses Romania’s strategic alignment with both the U.S. and EU while calling for peace in Ukraine on Ukraine's terms.
Addressing women and marginalized groups, Lasconi says her presidency would be a signal of change and pledges to fight for those often ignored in Romanian politics.
