
Romania Calls for Tougher Russia Sanctions
At the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg, Romanian Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu called for tougher sanctions on Russia, including measures against hybrid actions, and renewed support for Ukraine’s EU accession during the Polish Presidency. He backed continued military aid to Ukraine and stressed the importance of a just peace with strong security guarantees, CE Report quotes Agerpres
Hurezeanu also addressed the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, highlighting Romania’s role in medical evacuations and support for a two-state solution. At the EU-Palestine dialogue, he reiterated calls for a ceasefire and humanitarian access.
On EU-Africa relations, he supported deepening ties ahead of the May ministerial meeting, and emphasized the need to uphold international law. Discussions also covered instability in the Western Balkans, with Hurezeanu reaffirming Romania’s commitment to EU enlargement and regional security, including Romania's leadership role in the EUFOR-Althea mission from January 2025.
