Civic Groups Call for Strong Pro-European Commitment

Romania

In March, 29 civic organizations launched the "Manifesto for Europe," and today, they sent an official document to authorities, parliamentarians, and presidential candidates, urging a strong pro-European stance and concrete actions to safeguard Romania's Euro-Atlantic future, CE Report quotes Agerpres

The manifesto, signed by over 10,000 citizens from all walks of life, emphasizes Romania’s crucial role within the European Union and its alignment with Western democratic values. The organizations call on the Romanian Presidency, Government, Parliament, and presidential candidates to clearly support Romania’s European path and take concrete action.

The four official letters urge key institutions to strengthen the rule of law, implement policies promoting transparency, and adopt legislation supporting Romania’s European journey. Presidential candidates are specifically called to endorse European values, avoid populist rhetoric, and present measures to defend democracy.

The organizations stress that this is not a symbolic gesture, but a strong demand from civil society to protect Romania's place in Europe. Notable signatories include Coruptia ucide, FADERE, and Freedom House Romania, among others.
