
MEPs Approve Romascanu for European Court of Auditors
The European Parliament has approved Lucian Romascanu’s nomination to the European Court of Auditors (ECA) with 437 votes in favor, 128 against, and 92 abstentions. His appointment is pending a final decision by the EU member states within the Council, CE Report quotes Agerpres
Romascanu, currently the president of Buzau County Council and a former Minister of Culture, was recommended by the European Parliament's Committee on Budgetary Control. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Economic Studies in Bucharest and an MBA from ASSEBUS.
The ECA, which oversees the EU's financial management, ensures transparency and accountability in EU spending. Members are appointed for six-year terms and must meet strict independence criteria, free from external influence.
