PNRR Implementation Tops Government’s Agenda

Romania

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu emphasized that the government’s main focus is the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), while future priorities include reorganizing the administrative-territorial structure and reforming the budgetary system, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Speaking at the National Union of County Councils of Romania’s General Assembly on Friday, Ciolacu noted that each PNRR project is being reviewed with relevant ministers. Many initiatives, particularly in education and health, will require collaboration with local authorities, including county councils.

Looking ahead, Ciolacu highlighted the need for administrative-territorial reorganization and budget reform, stressing the importance of empowering county councils and local administrations to attract European funds and manage investments efficiently. He also revealed plans to streamline the central administration by merging certain bureaus and simplifying approval processes.

Despite being in an election period, Ciolacu emphasized the urgency of these reforms, underscoring the government’s commitment to achieving them amidst ongoing regional security challenges.
