Unemployment Rate Drops to 5.5% in January 2025

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in January 2025 fell to 5.5%, down 0.2 percentage points from December 2024, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS), CE Report quotes Agerpres

The jobless rate for men stood at 5.8%, 0.7 percentage points higher than for women (5.1%). The total number of unemployed individuals (aged 15-74) was estimated at 450,900, showing a decline from both the previous month and January 2024.

For adults aged 25-74, the unemployment rate was 4.2%, with men at 4.5% and women at 3.9%. This group accounted for 72% of total unemployed persons.

Meanwhile, youth unemployment (ages 15-24) remained high at 26.3% in the October–December 2024 period, the INS reported.
