PM Ciolacu Dismisses Resignation Speculations, Calls It a "Total Circus"
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu stated on Thursday that he has no intention of resigning, calling the idea a "total circus." He emphasized that the real issue is not about him but about Crin Antonescu’s candidacy in the upcoming presidential election on behalf of the ruling coalition, CE Report quotes Agerpres
When asked by reporters if he felt pressured to step down, Ciolacu dismissed the possibility, saying that his resignation would be the only way to change the coalition’s single candidate. He noted that a no-confidence motion was attempted but had no chance of success.
"The only discussion we can have is after we enter the OECD," Ciolacu said, referencing Romania’s bid to join the economic organization.
He also stressed that his departure would lead to the coalition’s collapse, ultimately jeopardizing Antonescu’s presidential run as the joint candidate of the PSD-PNL-UDMR alliance.
The presidential election is set for May 4.
