New Code Yellow Weather Alerts Issued for Cold and Snow in Romania

The National Weather Administration (ANM) has issued new Code Yellow weather alerts for cold temperatures and snowfall, affecting multiple regions in Romania from February 17 to 19, CE Report quotes Agerpres

The first alert impacts 18 counties in Transylvania, Crisana, Moldavia, and Maramures, where freezing temperatures are expected, especially in mountain areas, with lows between -17°C and -10°C.

A second alert, valid from February 17, 10:00 AM, to February 19, 10:00 AM, covers ten counties in the south, including Bucharest. Moderate snowfall is expected, with new snow layers of 15-25 cm forming. In parts of Olt, Arges, Dambovita, Prahova, and Constanta counties, snowfall could reach 10-15 cm, with wind gusts up to 45 km/h causing snowdrifts.

Additionally, a general weather advisory for snow, wind, and freezing temperatures will be in effect nationwide during this period. Snow accumulation of 10-20 cm is expected in southern and southeastern regions, while moderate winds of 30-40 km/h will affect the south, intensifying along the coast with gusts up to 45 km/h.

Cold weather will persist throughout the country until the end of the week, with freezing conditions especially pronounced in the north and central regions early in the week, shifting to the south and center later on.
