Romanian Minister Urges Neptun Deep Gas Exploitation to Reduce Imports
Romania must exploit the Neptun Deep natural gas deposit to avoid dependence on imports, Environment Minister Mircea Fechet told AGERPRES. He emphasized that the environmental impact assessment adhered to all Romanian and EU regulations, CE Report quotes Agerpres
"Romania's natural resources must be respected and utilized responsibly. Avoiding the exploitation of Neptun Deep and resorting to imports is not a viable option. I am eager to see the first Romanian gas molecule injected into the National Energy System," said Fechet.
On air quality, the minister highlighted the lack of an Integrated Air Quality Plan in Bucharest, warning of potential condemnation by the European Court of Justice if the document is not completed. He stressed the need to identify pollution sources and implement effective measures.
Regarding beach rentals, Fechet announced an extension of lease terms from two to ten years, allowing businesses more stability for investment recovery.
He also addressed the need for government support for Romania’s automotive industry, advocating for an increased incentive under the Rabla Plus program for electric vehicles in 2025. Fechet proposed a special bonus for locally produced electric cars, citing the advantages of manufacturing within the country.
The minister’s statements underscore Romania’s focus on energy independence, environmental responsibility, and industrial growth.
