Romania Prepares for Expo 2025 Osaka with Sustainable Pavilion and National Mascot
Romania's pavilion at the Osaka 2025 World Expo, set to run from April 13 to October 13, has been designed with sustainability in mind, featuring a recyclable and reusable structure, announced Ferdinand Nagy, General Commissioner of the Romanian Section for the event, CE Report quotes Agerpres
At a press conference with Japan's Ambassador to Romania, Katae Takashi, Nagy highlighted Romania's mascot for the Expo: Haru, a pelican symbolizing the country’s natural resources. The pavilion, themed "Land of Tomorrow," aims to attract one million visitors, contributing to the Expo's overall target of 25 million attendees.
The Romanian pavilion will showcase economic projects, artistic events, and cutting-edge research like ELI-NP. The project’s budget of 64 million lei spans 2022-2026, with 20 million lei allocated for construction, awarded to a Japanese company. Notably, Romanian workers are collaborating on the build in Japan.
This will be Osaka's third time hosting the World Expo, following editions in 1970 and 1990. Ambassador Katae Takashi expressed hope that Romania’s participation would boost its visibility among Japanese businesspeople and strengthen the bilateral Strategic Partnership established two years ago.
The pavilion's concept, "The Romanian Magic Box," was developed by architecture students from the Ion Mincu University in Bucharest and selected through a competition. Romania's participation was formally approved in November 2022, underscoring its commitment to contributing to the Expo's theme: "Designing Future Society for Our Lives."
