Education Minister Daniel David Prioritizes System Efficiency and Combating Challenges
Education and Research Minister Daniel David has identified ensuring the smooth daily operations of the education system as a top priority. Speaking to AGERPRES, he emphasized the importance of diagnosing the sector to identify strengths for enhancement and weaknesses for correction, CE Report quotes Agerpres
The minister confirmed that the current structure of the education system will remain unchanged for now, focusing instead on improving efficiency. Topics addressed included school equipment, measures to reduce school dropout rates, teacher performance indicators, education budgets, and national exams.
Among key initiatives, Minister David highlighted ongoing work on a new high school curriculum, enhanced teacher training methods, and modernized textbooks to make learning more engaging. Additionally, he confirmed the continuation of school infrastructure projects aimed at equipping 5,000 schools with improved digital resources and creating stimulating learning environments to combat school dropout.
In higher education, the minister aims to foster collaboration among universities, research institutes, and private sector research units. The goal is to eliminate overlaps and encourage cooperation for cumulative knowledge development.
Other planned measures include developing performance-linked indicators for teacher salaries, updating outdated high school framework plans, and strengthening universities’ academic missions. Minister David also emphasized the importance of linking universities with the labor market and local authorities, enhancing their autonomy and impact.
The minister reiterated the commitment to addressing challenges like school dropout through initiatives such as rethinking the curriculum, teacher training, and expanding the "healthy meal" program to support student retention and engagement.
