Holiday Surge at Nadlac II Border as 50,000 Travelers Enter Romania

Romania

In the past 24 hours, the number of people entering Romania through the Nadlac II Border Crossing Point has surged to 50,000—seven times the usual daily figure of 7,000. The increase is attributed to Romanians working abroad returning home for the holidays, CE Report quotes Agerpres

The Arad Border Police reported that over 57,000 individuals were processed at border crossings in the county, with Nadlac II handling the majority.

Starting January 1, 2025, border controls at land crossings will be eliminated for travel within the Schengen Area, streamlining movement for all travelers, regardless of nationality or transport type. However, border police will continue random checks to combat illegal migration and cross-border crime.

To ease congestion, authorities recommend using the "Trafic Online" app on www.politiadefrontiera.ro to monitor wait times and select less crowded crossing points.

Despite opening eight control lanes at Nadlac II on Friday morning, travelers experienced wait times of up to 50 minutes. At Nadlac I, the wait reached an hour, while crossings at Turnu and Varsand remained congestion-free.
