200,000 Syrians Return from Türkiye
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that 200,000 Syrians have returned to their homeland from Türkiye since December 9, 2024. Despite ongoing challenges, Syria is gradually recovering, which has contributed to the increasing number of returnees, Erdogan said during a migration management event, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency
Erdogan also highlighted the global migration crisis, noting that over 281 million migrants currently live worldwide, with more than 165 million migrant workers. The number of refugees has surged to 120 million in recent years due to conflict, oppression, and terrorism.
He criticized Western powers for their role in causing migration crises, stating that 75% of the world’s refugees are hosted by low- and middle-income countries, not wealthy ones. During the Syrian civil war, Türkiye became the largest host of Syrian refugees, sheltering over 4 million.
