Trump: Peace Deal with Russia "Very Close" After Vatican Talks

Politics

The meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of Pope Francis' funeral lasted 15 minutes and was held in St Peter's Basilica, Ukrainian media said on Saturday, CE Report quotes MIA.

A picture showed the two leaders - who were meeting in person for the first time since their historic Oval Office showdown in February - sitting on seats in a room in the church in the Vatican.

The state-run Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform, citing the president's office in Kiev, said a further meeting was planned between the two leaders for Saturday, focusing on achieving peace in Ukraine.

The White House earlier called the meeting "very productive," hours after Trump said a peace deal with Russia was "very close."
