Trump Says Crimea “Will Stay with Russia”

Politics

Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Crimea “will stay with Russia” as part of any future agreement to end the war in Ukraine, according to an interview published by Time Magazine. He claimed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “understands that,” adding the region has been with Russia “for a long time.”

This position contradicts Kyiv’s firm stance that it will never recognize Russia’s 2014 occupation of Crimea. Trump also blamed former President Obama for “handing over” Crimea and said it wouldn’t have happened under his leadership, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

The interview comes amid reports that Trump’s peace plan could involve Ukraine giving up about 20% of its territory to Russia, though it’s unclear if this figure came from Trump or other sources.
