EU Path Is Common Goal, Say North Macedonian and Montenegrin FMs
The mutual support expressed as regards EU integration sets a good example for our determination to advance on this path that will provide security, stability and progress toward a prosperous Europe we all aim at. Every achievement of any of the countries in the region on the European path is good news for all the others, CE Report quotes MIA.
This was concluded by the foreign ministers of North Macedonia and Montenegro, Timcho Mucunski and Ervin Ibrahimović, in a news conference Friday in Skopje as part of Ibrahimović’s official visit to the country.
He offered his condolences over last month’s deadly fire in a nightclub in Kochani.
“We were deeply saddened by the loss of young lives and I conveyed Montenegro’s support in alleviating the consequences from the tragedy and in helping the recovery of the injured,” said Ibrahimović, who also serves as deputy prime minister.
Being two countries guided by European and Euro-Atlantic values, he said, there is room for the excellent bilateral cooperation to be boosted further.
“EU full-fledged membership is Montenegro’s strategic goal and key foreign policy priority. The commitment we share with North Macedonia amid the modern geopolitical circumstances becomes all the more important. I believe that as a country having made progress the most in the negotiating process, we can make a decisive step and serve as a proof that EU enlargement is tangible and joining of the Western Balkans is attainable,” Ibrahimović said noting that every achievement of any of the countries in the region on the European path is good news for the others.
European perspective, he added, is the strongest guarantee for further prosperity and stability and an additional cohesive factor of cooperation. “In this context, Montenegro and North Macedonia must serve as an example.”
The Montenegrin minister said that special attention was paid to transport connectivity between the two countries.
Minister Mucunski noted that it was concluded that economic cooperation is not on par with the political relations. “We shared ideas how to focus on exhausting existing potentials and opportunities in order to contribute to improving economic cooperation, increasing trade and improving cooperation in the sphere of tourism,” he told the news conference.
“We share the same position as regards the situation in the region and we agree that we should focus on all levels, bilateral, regional and multilateral, in order to maintain peace, stability and prosperity,” Mucunski said adding that the ministers signed a memorandum of understanding allowing diplomatic trainings by the two ministries.
Talks mainly focused on the two countries’ EU integration processes, he noted.
“The mutual support expressed as regards European integration is a good example of our dedication to progress on this path that will provide security, stability and progress toward a prosperous Europe we all aim at. We both concluded that more efforts are needed to accelerate reforms and improve rule of law as the basis for building stable and functioning societies,” concluded FM Mucunski.
