
Mitsotakis Advocates for Education Reforms
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the Ministry of Education, Religions, and Sports on Friday, where he chaired a meeting with Minister Sofia Zacharaki and the ministry’s leadership, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
Mitsotakis addressed the topic of teacher evaluations, stating that while the process was still in development, teachers who refuse to participate in evaluations should not remain in the public education system. He also mentioned the ongoing review of the curriculum, with proposals for a balanced reduction to focus more on quality over quantity.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of early vocational guidance for students, suggesting that middle school could be the right time to assess students' skills and interests to guide them toward academic and professional paths.
Mitsotakis also discussed the government’s efforts against bullying, including the “stopbullying” platform and the introduction of Model Schools and Experimental Schools. He emphasized the upcoming exams in these schools, supported by the Onassis Foundation, as a significant innovation.
Lastly, he outlined the Marietta Giannakou programme, which will upgrade over 600 schools, with the first set to be ready by September. Despite the progress, Mitsotakis stressed that more work remains ahead for the education system.
