EU Gives €60M to Moldova for Defense
The European Union will provide €60 million in new financial assistance to Moldova, aiming to strengthen the country's resilience and defense capabilities. The announcement was made by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, during a joint press conference with Moldovan President Maia Sandu in Chișinău, CE Report quotes MOLPDRES
President Sandu emphasized the importance of the support, noting that Russian drones violating Moldovan airspace pose a danger to civilians and infrastructure. The aid will include equipment to better protect citizens from such threats.
Kallas stated that the assistance package is part of the EU’s broader strategy to support stability and security in Eastern Europe, particularly as regional tensions grow due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
This marks Kallas’s first official visit to Moldova as a European Commission member, taking place on April 23–24.
