In a statement marking the anniversary of the April 21, 1967 military coup in Greece, SYRIZA–Progressive Alliance emphasized the ongoing need to defend democracy, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

“The sad anniversary of April 21 is always a reminder of the duty to protect and defend Democracy,” the party said, referencing the seven-year dictatorship that followed and the betrayal of Cyprus as a defining moment in Greek history.

SYRIZA warned that democratic values are not guaranteed, pointing to the rise of the far right, growing inequality, and what it called “techno-fascism” as threats. The party called for continued vigilance and reaffirmed the role of the Left in defending democratic rights.
