US-Albanian Groups Warn Kosovo Over Political Stalemate
The Albanian-American Relations Council (AARC) and the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo express their "deep concern" regarding the delay in the constitution of the Assembly and the formation of a new government following the February 9 elections, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
"At a time when Kosovo faces critical challenges and opportunities – both at home and abroad – such institutional stagnation undermines the country's democratic stability, economic development, and credibility on the global stage," the response states.
AARC and the American Chamber call for urgent and responsible action to create fully functional institutions.
"The prolonged vacuum in governance sends worrying signals to international allies and weakens Kosovo's position in vital geopolitical developments. These delays risk further alienating supporters of Kosovo's statehood, while emboldening its opponents," the response further states.
"The American Chamber and AARC call for the establishment of a Strategic Economic Partnership between Kosovo and the United States. This formal framework should enhance bilateral cooperation in key sectors, including investment facilitation, export development, energy transition, digital transformation, and innovation. Rooted in shared democratic values, such a partnership would boost American investment, deepen industrial ties, and help integrate Kosovo into global value chains," the American Chamber and AARC said in a statement.
Both organizations also emphasize the importance of quickly addressing key policy decisions, including the removal of tariffs on American goods.
"Removing these barriers would demonstrate Kosovo's commitment to a fair and open economic environment."
The elected deputies will gather today, April 19, in a third attempt to constitute the ninth legislature of the Assembly of Kosovo.
