Greece and France Strengthen Defence Ties

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with French Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Lecornu in Athens on Monday, highlighting the strong strategic partnership between Greece and France, especially in defence and security, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Mitsotakis emphasized the importance of the EU’s ReArm plan for strengthening European defence autonomy and reducing reliance on non-EU countries. He praised the close cooperation with French President Emmanuel Macron and underlined the need to align EU defence efforts with the interests of all member states.

Lecornu noted the strong personal and professional ties between Greek and French leadership, and reported productive talks with Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias. Discussions included French naval visits, regional security issues, and the need to strengthen defence industries, especially in shipbuilding, where Greece plays a key role.
