The ceremony, hosted at the Presidential Palace, began with a tribute to the national flag and anthem. President Maia Sandu addressed the gathering, emphasizing that the 1990 Parliament played a crucial role in gaining Moldova’s independence and building its democratic foundations.

“Today’s conference marks a fundamental moment in our history. The first Parliament paved the way to freedom, independence, and democracy,” said Sandu. She highlighted the Parliament's landmark decisions, such as recognizing the Romanian language, reinstating the tricolor, and declaring independence. Sandu also underlined Moldova’s current opportunity to fully integrate into the European Union, calling it a “historic chance.”

Academician Ion Tighineanu, President of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences, stressed the importance of science in achieving European integration and praised the Parliament’s legacy. Poet and former Deputy Speaker Ion Hadârcă honored the sacrifices made during Moldova’s fight for independence, calling the first Parliament's mission “historic and fulfilled.”

The first session of Moldova’s democratic Parliament took place on April 17, 1990.
