EU Halts Tariff Response for 90 Days

Politics

The European Union has agreed to delay its planned countermeasures against the United States for 90 days, following U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to pause tariffs on multiple countries, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

“We took note of President Trump’s announcement. We want to give negotiations a chance,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on X.

While the EU had already finalized its retaliatory measures with strong backing from member states, their implementation will be suspended for three months. Von der Leyen warned, however, that if talks fail, the EU is prepared to proceed with its response.

“All options remain on the table,” she said, noting that the Commission is still working on further potential actions.

Trump’s move excluded China from the tariff pause, raising its rate to 125%. Global stock markets jumped following the news.
